Why pavers are the modern hardscape workhorse
Interlocking concrete pavers have become the dominant hardscape material across the country for good reason. They offer a virtually unlimited range of colors, sizes, textures, and patterns. They're incredibly strong, with compressive strengths far exceeding poured concrete. They flex with our freeze-thaw cycles instead of cracking. And uniquely individual pavers can be lifted and replaced if a utility line ever needs access or a stain needs removal. That repairability is impossible with poured concrete.
ICPI installation standards
We install all our paver projects to standards aligned with the Interlocking Concrete Pavement Institute (ICPI). That means proper excavation depth, geotextile fabric, compacted aggregate base in lifts, screeded sand setting bed, and polymeric joint sand activated correctly. We use mechanical compactors at multiple stages of installation. The result is a paver surface that's flat, tight, and stable for decades.
Pattern and design options
Herringbone is the strongest interlocking pattern and our default for driveways and high-traffic areas. Running bond and basket weave offer cleaner, more contemporary looks for patios. Modular layouts using multiple paver sizes create rich, custom-looking patterns. Borders in contrasting colors define edges and add visual interest. We'll mock up patterns at your home so you can see what they look like in your space before committing.
Permeable paver options
Permeable pavers allow water to pass through the joints and into a specially-designed base, reducing runoff and helping with drainage. They're a great choice for driveways and large patios where water management matters. We install them with appropriate base sections and aggregate.
Pavers FAQs
For most residential applications, yes. Pavers flex with freeze-thaw, can be lifted and replaced individually, offer more design options, and don't crack like concrete slabs.
