Everything you need to know before hiring a hardscape contractor in Central Oregon, straight answers, no runaround.
Costs vary widely depending on scope, materials, and site conditions. As a rough guide: small paver pathways start around $2,000 to $4,000; mid-size patios typically run $6,000 to $15,000; retaining walls range from $4,000 to $20,000+ depending on height and length. We provide free, detailed written estimates so you know exactly what you're getting before any work begins. Call (541) 419-0092 for a same-day quote.
Most residential projects take 1 to 5 days depending on size and complexity. A simple stone walkway might be done in a day. A full patio with retaining wall and steps could take 3 to 5 days. We'll give you a specific timeline in your estimate so you can plan accordingly. We show up on schedule and work through to completion, no disappearing mid-project.
Our 1-year warranty covers workmanship defects, settling, shifting, or structural failures that result from our installation. If pavers sink, a wall leans, or steps shift due to our work, we come back and fix it at no cost. The warranty does not cover damage from acts of nature, tree root intrusion, or changes made to the project by others after installation.
Yes. 541 Hardscaping holds Oregon Contractor's License CCB #259828. We carry general liability insurance and are in good standing with the Oregon Construction Contractors Board. You can verify our license at the CCB website. Never hire a contractor who can't provide their CCB number, in Oregon, unlicensed contracting is illegal and leaves you unprotected.
Chace McHone holds two key certifications: Oregon Block Certified (specific to block retaining wall systems in Oregon) and Certified Paver Installer. These are professional credentials that require demonstrated knowledge of installation standards, drainage engineering, and material-specific requirements. They're not generic landscaping licenses, they're trade-specific certifications that matter for the quality of your project.
Poor drainage is the number-one cause of hardscape failure. Water that doesn't have a clear path away from a patio, wall, or pathway will find its own path, often through your base material, under your pavers, or into your home's foundation. In Central Oregon, water that gets trapped under hardscape and freezes expands with enormous force, lifting pavers and cracking walls. Every project we install includes proper slope grading and, where needed, perforated drain pipe to move water safely away from the structure.
We work with concrete pavers (multiple brands and styles), natural flagstone, basalt and volcanic stone, decomposed granite, segmental retaining wall block (Allan Block, Versa-Lok, and others), natural boulders, river rock, and mortared or dry-stacked natural stone. We source locally from Oregon suppliers when possible. During your estimate, we'll walk through the options that make the most sense for your project, budget, and aesthetic.
Bend sits at over 3,600 feet with 150+ frost days per year. Every installation we do is built with this in mind. That means deeper excavation (typically 6 to 10 inches depending on application), compacted road base in proper lifts, proper drainage slope, and edge restraints that keep everything locked. Sand-set systems are particularly freeze-thaw tolerant because they flex slightly with soil movement rather than cracking. We do not skip base steps to save time, cutting corners on base prep in Central Oregon always leads to early failure.
Sealing is optional but recommended for most installations. A quality sealer protects against UV fading, oil and grease stains, and moisture penetration. It also enhances color, giving pavers a slightly richer, "wet" look if you choose an enhancing sealer, or a natural matte finish if you prefer a penetrating sealer. We offer sealing as an add-on service. Sealed pavers should be re-sealed every 3 to 5 years depending on traffic and exposure.
We serve the greater Central Oregon region including Bend, Redmond, Sisters, Sunriver, Prineville, Powell Butte, and surrounding communities. If you're not sure whether we cover your area, just call, (541) 419-0092. We're based in Redmond and typically serve projects within about 60 miles.
Yes. If you have existing concrete, old pavers, or deteriorated steps that need to come out before new installation, we handle the demo and haul-off as part of the project. Demolition costs are included in your estimate. We leave the site clean, no debris piles left for you to deal with.
We accept check, cash, and most major credit cards. For most projects, we require a deposit to schedule and purchase materials, with the balance due upon completion. The exact deposit amount and payment schedule will be clearly outlined in your written estimate before any work begins. We never ask for full payment upfront.
Most residential patios and low retaining walls (under 4 feet) don't require a building permit in Oregon. Taller retaining walls or projects that affect drainage near property lines may require permits. We'll advise you on permit requirements during the estimate process and can assist with permit applications when needed. All our work complies with Oregon building codes.
We're happy to answer any question about your project, no sales pitch, no pressure.
